The very first glimmer of the beginning of the beginnings of Mudlark Theatre began on a typical Tasmanian winters day in 2004 when 2 friends had a coffee with a play on the table between them and said “hey lets do this together, there might be something in it.”
The play was What is the matter with Mary Jane? by Wendy Harmer and in 2005 the two friends, Jane Johnson and Carrie McLean, completed a 4 week statewide tour of schools and colleges, with the support of Arts Tasmania and the Office of Youth Affairs, and produced under the banner of syzygy theatre works. With Carrie directing, Jane performing and both of them mucking in with every other role, two friends found themselves travelling around the beautiful state of theirs, in a beaten up 4WD, with the set in the back, doing what they truly and utterly love.
Since
"Mary Jane", Mudlark has embarked on four main stage productions - a
delicious blend of the discipline-rich and artistically dangerous: Cafe, Underneath
the Lintel, Junk Rooms and Rooted.
