One Day 20
26 November 2023 - 7.00PM
The Earl Arts Centre, Launceston
2023 marks Mudlark's 20th Anniversary of the exhilarating theatrical thrill ride that is ONE DAY: “it’s bungee jumping for artists”!
ONE DAY is an annual event that has become a must-see for Launceston audiences where teams of artists defy artistic impossibility as they write, rehearse, produce and perform plays in just 24 hours.
ONE DAY is a unique and electrifying theatrical experience for artists and audiences alike; the premiere, opening, and closing of plays that literally did not exist yesterday – anything can happen!
Twenty consecutive years of ONE DAY is an incredible milestone, and its longevity is owed to the extraordinary ensemble of artists who have courageously jumped on board with the event each and every year. Since the first ONE DAY in June 2004 there have been 123 new plays created by over 200 individual artists.
The heart of ONE DAY is creation, collaboration and celebration. What started as an experiment 20 years ago has turned into a beloved collaborative theatre event of format and scale like no other in Tasmania.
Tickets for our Sunday night performances are available through Theatre North.

HISTORY OF ONE DAY
One Day has become something of an institution thanks to the careful guiding hand of its engineer and previous curator of many years Stuart Loone, the support and platform provided by Mudlark Theatre and the hundreds of artists who contribute passionately to the project.
Since the first One Day in June 2004 there have been 123 new plays created by teams of plawrights, directors, actors and technical crew. Over 200 individual artists have been involved in One Day throughout the years.
In short, playwrights, directors, actors, producers and technicians get together to create between four to ten one act plays - and write, rehearse, produce and perform them in 24 breathtaking hours. Defying impossibility. Risking total and complete failure for the adrenalin of utmost success.
Created out of a desire to get graduates from the UTAS theatre degree creating, talking and panicking together (and to answer the question "can it be done?"), the ONE DAYS have since developed into a community celebration of the local theatre scene.
Throughout its history, One Day has maintained consistency in its goals and aims.
Originally an independent venture, One Day has been under Mudlark's auspice since One Day 6 in 2008.
The following is the bare-bones info, but please go to the complete One Day Canon for play details and cast breakdowns and crew lists.

- To allow the project to remain a flexible forum for theatre artists by setting new challenges with each installment.
- To foster working relationships between theatre artist regardless of geography.
- To increase the profile of the local talent pool of theatre practitioners.
